Brucey Goosy is on the loosy in Canada!
Bruce’s mom was found abandoned in the city of Chimalhuacan, Mexico State. She had just given birth to 7 puppies and was working hard to keep all of them alive on the streets. A kindhearted human saw his mom and gave her some food, a cardboard box to shelter us puppies, and then went to look for help.
She called Bruce’s rescuer, who luckily swooped in and saved all of us! All of his other siblings had been adopted (one even to Vancouver!) but Bruce was still waiting for his forever home.
Then, we had an inquiry on Instagram. A couple who lost their dog who looked so similar to Bruce saw him and knew they had to have him! They have been so amazing and patient with him, and we couldn’t be happier for Bruce.
Here is what his new family had to say:
Bruce has been an amazing addition to our family. When he first arrived, he was definitely pretty skittish, very confused, but oh so sweet. Over the past few weeks, with a lot of treats and encouragement, he's continued to come out of his shell and show us just how much of a lovable goofball he is. His house training has gone very well. After only a few days, he'd mostly figured it out. With frequent opportunities provided throughout the day, Bruce easily understood we wanted him to do his business outside. On our first walks, he would need to stop from time to time so he could take it all in as I think he was pretty overwhelmed by his change of scenery, but was always super excited whenever he saw his leash. Now, at 4 weeks in, he trots along confidently and only stops for sniff breaks, or to do his business. He was really not interested in other dogs at first, but now he's getting more confident and actually initiating play at the park sometimes (so long as it's a small dog and not one of those scary big ones). His favourite thing is to cuddle up with a human and zonk out. Sometimes it doesn't even seem to matter which human as he's been so great with all of our house guests too! Throughout the day, he's content to lay about and catch up on sleep so long as he gets his walks in. All in all, he's the perfect pup for us and we couldn't be happier to have him here. As his skittishness is subsiding, we're looking forward to training him a bit more - something that he's already shown a keen aptitude for. We feel very lucky to have found a dog that's smart enough to pick up on things quickly, but also lazy enough to not have to be entertained at all times. Thanks to everyone along the way who helped Bruce get to his home.
