Max has made his move to Canada!
Max’s mom was found abandoned in the city of Chimalhuacan, Mexico State. She had just given birth to 7 puppies and was working hard to keep all of them alive on the streets. A kindhearted human saw his mom and gave her some food, a cardboard box to shelter us puppies, and then went to look for help.
She called Max’s rescuer, who luckily swooped in and saved all of us! All of his other siblings had been adopted (except Bruce) and Max was ready to start a new life!
Here is what his new family had to say:
Max is the sweetest bubba, and we already can’t imagine life without him. In the beginning, he was a bit of a velcro boy and always wanted to be attached to one of us (though he was a little nervous around John at first). He’s still super affectionate and will never turn down a hug, but he’s become much more independent as he’s settled in. Sleep was a challenge for the first week or so with a new environment and new sounds (who could blame him for being scared?), but with time and some trial and error, he’s been doing so much better. Potty training is going well, though we’re working on getting him to let us know when he needs to go outside. He doesn’t seem to appreciate “ball” just yet, but he does like chasing after squeaky toys (some of which are now on their third round of replacement squeakers..) and has started playing tag with John (It’s been so much fun watching him realise what a fast boy he is!). He loves going for long walks and has been having a great time exploring the parks around our house. His recall is excellent (see above re: “velcro boy”..), so he’s been spending some time off leash as well (and even got to play in some late-season snow!). As much as he loves going for walks, he seems to love coming back home even more and will bound up the stairs six steps per hop before settling in on the couch for a nap. He’s a bit shy around new people and dogs but has been becoming more confident. He can “sit” and “stay,” but will only stay if the treat is medium-tasty (no chance if there’s cheese on the line!). Overall, Max is doing so much better than we could have hoped, and we’re so proud of how much progress he’s made. He’s a perfect fit for our family, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped bring him home!
