Baby girl Maggie is home at last!
Maggie was found by rescuers when she was just 8 months old. Her old ‘family’ had abandoned her. Luckily, that sweet face caught the eye of an amazing adopter who has been so patient with this ‘all things puppy’ doggo!
Here is what her adopters had to say:
Maggie is adjusting amazingly to life in Canada, and we couldn’t wish for a better dog! From day one we could tell that she was such a sweet puppy. She was super excited to meet the family and let everyone come and pet her (she almost immediately was asking for belly rubs)!
Despite having some hiccups at first, she is getting better every day with leash walking and reactivity. Training Maggie has been surprisingly easy because she’s such a smart girl! She learned the basics of “sit” in one training session, and from there has been rapidly learning many new things. Crate training has also gone well, and since we put food in her crate, sometimes she’ll go in there all on her own and look at us expectantly for food! She also is very willing to be handled, and lets us groom her, clip her nails, and bathe her with little trouble.
While we are still working on getting her to play (so far, we’ve learned that she likes tennis balls and is afraid of squeaky toys), she is always ready to be pet or to get food (cheese is her favourite treat). She can be anxious when first meeting people, but we’re working on desensitizing her and she’s barking much less. Once she has warmed up to a person, she is very affectionate and loves pets. One of her favourite things is to walk up to a person and let them pet her for a little while, and then go to request pets from someone else. She’ll go around in this circle for a while to get her fill of pets!
It hasn’t been very long and there are still many things for Maggie to learn, but she is such a perfect match for us and we can’t wait to see her continued improvement. Maggie is really a blessing, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the volunteers at WCP for getting her to us!
